  • Jason Wilson presents Sumach Roots: musical vignettes about the Upper Canadian experience across history. The suite surveys – among other stories – Elizabeth Posthuma Simcoe’s diaries from York c.1793-96; The Irish Famine’s effect on an Upper Canadian nurse in 1847; and the lesser known Toronto fire of 1902 that claimed five firemen. Dr. Wilson is uniquely positioned to present such a musical work given his track record as both an award-winning musician and as a best-selling Canadian historian. Sumach Roots the album/booklet will be released in 2019 (Wheel Records/Proper Music Distribution).

A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. Olivia Colman took home an Oscar for her amazing portrayal of Queen Anne, and the film itself has been nominated for 269 different film festival awards (with 145 wins).

  • In 1982, sixteen-year-old Marina Nemat was arrested on false charges by Iranian Revolutionary Guards and tortured in Tehran's notorious Evin prison. At a time when most Western teenaged girls are choosing their prom dresses, Nemat was listening to gunshots as her friends were being executed. She was condemned to die, but survived because one of the guards, Ali, whose family was well connected to the Khomeini regime, pleaded for her life. But the price Ali exacted was high; Nemat would have to marry him. After her release, she rejoined her own family but was further traumatized by their reluctance to acknowledge her ordeal. "Prisoner of Tehran" is an extraordinary tale based on the true story of Marina Nemat's life, which was captured in her best-selling book, which has been published by 27 different publishing houses around the world. Marina Nemat herself was awarded the Human Dignity Price in 2007.

The fantastic sled designed by Frankie disintegrates right before crossing the finish line. It is a bitter loss for Frankie who refuses to accept that he might have made some building mistakes. Together with his friends, he manages to prove that Zac cheated during the race. Frankie demands a rematch; which Zac accepts on condition that Frankie build an entirely new race track.

Since inception, the show has combined professionals with a large cast of local children and teens in a unique reworking of Charles Dickens' famous story. Enjoy this colourful and lively tale of Scrooge brought to life by the dancers of Motus O.
